It was a Test match seemingly following the script of a Hollywood film.

England, 1-0 down in the series, arrived at Edgbaston determined to take the fight to an Australia side without talismanic seamer Glenn McGrath.

Michael Vaughan’s side, beaten comprehensively in the first Test, counter-punched by amassing more than 400 runs on day one, having been put in to bat.

They took a lead of 99 into the second innings and would eventually set the tourists 282 to win.

When Steve Harmison bowled Michael Clarke with a sensational slower-ball yorker just before stumps on day three, Australia were 175/8.

Still requiring 107 and with only two wickets in hand, Australia looked beaten. But there was to be a simply electrifying finish...
