In sport, mastering the fundamentals can be the difference between a career extended into your late 30s or one cut short by injury.

And for bowlers, proper movement patterns and load management are essential.

Stuart Broad knows this as well as anyone and has always emphasised the value of getting the basics right.

"I was never someone who had express pace, so for me it was about hitting the top of off stump, hitting the seam, and having that relentless nature."

The value of consistency and simple repetition is clear, and that point is echoed by the England cricket physiotherapist, Chris Morgan.

"Repetitive actions put stress on the body," he explains. "But good technique spreads the load.

"That’s why bowlers with clean actions and good mobility last longer - they’re not fighting their body.”

PRACTICAL TAKEAWAYS

1. Focus on basics:

Strong posture, controlled technique, and proper warm-up reduce breakdown risk.

2. Don’t chase extremes:

Incremental improvement in form beats forcing big gains too quickly.

3. Longevity over flash:

Solid mechanics extend your active years.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Stuart's approach was simple but profound - stick to the basics and move well.

Longevity in sport isn’t about flashy tricks, but about making the fundamentals second nature.
