"You need a watch that can last longer than you can out on the trails." - Tom Evans

Training technology has become a central part of modern endurance sport.

From pacing strategies to recovery tracking, data now plays a significant role in how athletes prepare and compete. But the real value of any tool lies in how it’s used.

For Tom Evans, technology isn’t about collecting more data - it’s about making better decisions during training and, crucially, in races.

Because when effort is misjudged early, the consequences are often felt much later.

Speaking on his podcast, The Ultra Sound, Tom was asked to name the training add that has added the most value to his training and running.

"I've been using Garmin for many years," he replied.

"In fact it was the first watch I bought when I was in the Army.

"Now as a professional athlete I use Garmin 24/7 to measure not just my training but my heart rate variability [HRV] and also to track my sleep for me.

"I find the most valuable thing about my Garmin is using the features such as Pace Pro and Climb Pro for when I'm racing.

"It really helps me to gauge the effort - especially going uphill - to make sure that I don't go too hard too soon and I'm able to finish the race off in style.

"The other thing which is really important is the battery life. You need a watch that can last longer than you can out on the trails, it's an absolute game changer, so that's why Garmin works for me."
